My works focus on the alienation of people and things in the consumer society. In the digital modern society, people will receive intensive visual information every day, which stimulates people's hedonic nature in the form of looking forward to the future (John Berger, 1972).In this process, human beings are gradually materialized and lose their actual self. Jean Baudrillard (1996) pointed out that symbolic value has become the most important determinant of all values in the analysis of Commodity in post-industrial society. This also declared that people entered the era of symbol rule. 
 

My practice is aimed at the criticism of the relationship between human and material alienation in consumer society. In unit 1, I present consumerism from an objective perspective. In unit 2, I do my work from the perspective of a consumer, so I’d like to make a series of 3D collages, which are about portraits in consumer society. I would like to express people's consumption dilemma in this way.
In form, I continued to use the collage form of unit 1 and made adjustments in the content and materials of the collage. At present, I am making 3D collages with some ready-made products and paper from my life. Through the exploration of 3D collage to show consumer portrait. I print out some real pictures and make them into paper sculptures. These pictures look very real, but they are in a virtual state in real life. I put them in real life in the form of paper sculptures and take them with a camera again. In this process, they have shadows, and shadows are the evidence to prove their existence. Using photography to put the real and virtual contrast relationship into space has a sense of disorder, which is in line with the feeling brought by consumerism. Prosperous dream but not real, but consumers are really in such a dream space.
 

In this unit, I’d like to discuss the influence of the alienation of people and things due to consumerism in my own capacity. I hope the audience can re-examine the relationship between self and consumer society through my works, and think about how we should keep ourselves out of the control of material in consumer society.
